Sail Away!!

Well Friday was a phenomenal day! And I went sailing for the first time ever, wow, was that ever fun! It was somewhat windy out, but we also had a motor, so if it got too windy we could have always used that. We never did use the motor unless it was to get away from the slip or back into it. There was a time when the wind did kick in and the boat was literally standing on its side. I had my feet on the other bench, and was standing almost in an upright position. All I kept thinking was, if I would have been sleeping in the cabin below and would have woken up to seeing the window completely under water, I would have freaked! I did most of the navigating since my friend, who owns the boat, had to put the sails up or down. It navigates pretty much like a regular fishing boat except it didn’t have a steering wheel, nor did it has a shifter. It was more like a long stick handle sticking out from the back of the boat into the seating area and you navigate it to the left or the right depending on which way the wind was blowing. We had Lake Pepin all to ourselves! It was the perfect day to pick, because it was Friday, most people were working! Not to mention that many people still don’t even have their boats ready to use. What a shame! I don’t get that, they all whine that they can’t wait for summer to get here but then they don’t even have their boats out to start preparing it for the river. The mass on this sail boat is probably 15 feet high, I didn’t really have the strength to help him get that up and hold the rope tightly that needs to be held, to make it easier later. We offered to pay some man if he could help us get that up, but he refused the money and helped us anyways. I found out that he was from Turkey. He was hot! Giorn (the Turkish guy, I did get his name) was also very well spoken in the American language; I was really surprised how well. I wonder how long he has lived here. I lived in Germany most of my life, and have some friends who are Turkish and some of them, no matter how long they lived in Germany, still never mastered the foreign language without their Turkish accent. Not to mention, some never learned hardly any German at all! Well after we went sailing and got the boat back into the slip we had a fish dinner, and a burger which was very good! Then we went home and listened to some music while showering and getting dressed to relax. We made it off the river just in time. When we got home, it started lightening, thundering and raining. I had to get back that night so while I drove it was thundering and lightening the whole way home, that wasn’t too much fun, especially not after the gorgeous day it had been all day long. So then the weekend came along and of course, I wasn’t too sad about the weather still being miserable because I needed to let my sunburned face relax. I know one thing; I can’t wait to do that again! So in my world I always say. Let there be sun! To boat ride, ride motorcycles, to ride bikes, to walk, to jog, to play, to smell the fresh air, to see the beautiful colors, to be in the wind and get fresh air, to get some rays and vitamin D from the sun that we have lacked since October and much, much more! It’s too have fun! So the next time it is nice out, don’t just sit and look out the window and say, “What should I do”. Just go and do it! You won’t regret it!
