'The glass cemetery"

Has anyone else wondered, what the heck do I blog about this week? I mean, I know I’m a talker and usually can talk to anyone about anything, but I find it hard to think about what to write when all I know is the weeks fly by so fast and I never get enough done! Not to mention the only thing I ever do all week is homework, homework, and more homework, then study for tests; week after week! Well I have been living in Wisconsin now for 11 years and I was introduced to a “glass cemetery” and Wow! That was so exciting to see. I have been there three times already. Not to mention the road trip on a nice day is a nice one to take.

The first time I saw this cemetery, I spent three hours there, one other time about an hour and one other time; when my parents came to visit, we spent five hours there! My parents even thought it was the neatest thing. The reason why I’m telling you about this is because it’s really creative and unusual and I have told some people about it and they have never heard of it. What they do is design all sorts of things out of broken bottle of glasses. These bottles, jars, or wine or even mugs glasses are used to make all sorts of different shapes and objects. These objects are made out of all different colors, blue, green red, white, yellow, black, and even clear glass. These objects consist of bird houses to a huge ship and it says Bremen on it, since that is where the people who made all of this stuff as a hobby came from originally. There is even a flag, but most of all even their little gorgeous chapel is surrounded by all the beautiful colorful glass. And yes you can set up appointments to get married there.

It’s been a few years now since I have been there so I don’t remember exactly all the stuff that is there. Plus I don’t want to tell you what all is there, what fun would it then be to go there, even it’s really hard to describe, it is something to be seen. The outer railing has the colorful glass design, but most of all that I find so interesting is these people did it because it was their hobby to do, well after awhile these by passers would stop to check it all out; well eventually it became more and more popular. Well now they have a little donation box to put a few dollars in there or whatever you may choose to do. They also have maps and description of what it is and when it was made and by whom and so forth. Well anyways these people made all of this creative artwork and when they passed over, their children decided to do some of the design hobby themselves and decorated their graves with the colorful glass around their headstone and so forth. And the only reason why I know about that is the last time when my parents and I went together; to our surprise there actually was a man who came out of the house the house sits right next to this area. And of course, my mother had to go and talk to the guy and that lasted for a good hour. I don’t think that guy lived there though; I think he was just the caretaker or the guy who mows the lawn.

Well the set up is the glass area, someone’s home and then up the slope is an actual cemetery. It’s a very small one. It makes you wonder if it’s just the family since it’s so private and small. There’s enough parking for about 10 cars from what I remember and believe me I have seen about 7 cars there about the same time of families with younger children stopping to look at it.

Anyways if you drive out towards West Salem out on Hwy 16 towards the Mall, keep driving through West Salem and keep going till you are driving towards Sparta, well here is where I somewhat get confused on the directions, so bare with me. All I know is you will eventually see a green sign that says Melrose, or Mindoro and it will point to the left, well whatever that road is take it and shortly after you drive up the road you will see the glass cemetery on your left hand side. So if and whenever you feel like it’s a gorgeous day and you have nothing planned to do, take a ride out that way and go and check it out, it’s great to see, for all ages. I have even seen people there with their dogs; I would just hope that if your dog leaves the poop that you will be kind enough to scoop. ;) I had to throw that in there to be funny.
